Fred Jones .Coldstream Guards. Killed 1916
« on: Friday 15 January 21 13:50 GMT (UK) »
Fred Jones was born in Wrexham in 1889 and in 1911 was living on Bradley Road Wrexham. In military war records there is a Fred Jones birth Place Wrexham killed on 15th September 1916 in France. His service number is 15378 .1st Battalion Coldstream Guards.

There is also a pension record  which names  wife Emily and children Gladys and Sidney Jones. They are living in Patricroft, Lancashire. In 1939 Gladys Jones is with her mother Emily Roberts and there is Dilys Jones who has the same birth date as the Sydney Jones of the pension record. Is this an error.

In 1912 a Fred Jones married Emily Roberts in a civil marriage in Wrexham.  I have tried to find  Military records that have more information about Fred, this is to confirm it is the same man who was a furniture maker in 1911. As this is a local history research I'm not prepared to buy the marriage certificate.

Also wondering why he would have joined the Coldstream Guards rather than a Welsh regiment especially as his siblings were born in Pembrokeshire.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

It was war time, men were sent where they were most needed, you will sometimes find them transferred to another regiment who’s numbers has been depleted

Usually the records of men dying in service were destroyed after a period of time. Also 60% to 70% of WW1 records were destroyed by enemy action in WW2.

On the Marriage Certificate Rosie mentions it states Fred is an Upholsterer, Polisher Journeyman. On that tree he only has two children Dilys born 16/6/1913 & Gladys 29/8/1915.
