19th Century Cemetery - Killavullen
« on: Friday 15 January 21 22:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

My ancestor Catherine Roche (nee Daly) was originally from Killavullen, I believe she died sometime between 1870 and 1896, I have checked and no civil registration for her death exists and she is not buried in the Roche family plot with her husband. So thinking maybe she died young in the early 1870's in which case she was most likely buried in a family plot in/near Killavullen. Could anyone familiar with the area suggest old cemeteries in or around Killavullen where she could be buried?

Just to add Catherine Roche (nee Daly) would be the Aunt of Patrick Daly as listed on the 1911 census link below - in case anyone recognises the family:

Hi

Do you see Catherine on the 1901 census?

Have you got a link to her marriage?

Regards

No she is not on the 1901 census, her husband was a widower on his death in 1896, she married John Roche in Killavullen parish in 1860.

Hi

Was he the John Roche, a widower, who died in Lismore, Waterford, in 1896?

Cheers

I think so yes, that John Roche is listed as a miller and my ancestor was a Miller in Midleton, Cork but the family had connections to Waterford. The only thing that is very strange is that my ancestor is listed as buried in the Roche Plot in St Joseph's Cemetery, Cork in November 1896 and that death cert of the John Roche in lismore is months before that, but I've checked and no other death cert for a John Roche in 1896/1897 matches.

Yes - Castletownroche Parish: Bridget Roche 1861, Michael John (Elms - address) 1863, Patrick (Elms) 1864, Twins  - Daniel & David (Ballyhooly) (1866), Catherine (Ballyhooly) (1867).

Note - Catherine Roche (nee Daly) brother Patrick's son Patrick marriage was to Bridget Roche in Killavullen parish on February 04, 1897 - on the marriage cert the groom's father is listed as alive and a Farmer. However, I can't find Patrick Daly senior on the 1901 census or a death cert that could be him, i'm thinking if I can find his death cert it may lead me to his burial place and that is probably the Daly family plot where my ancestor Catherine Roche (nee Daly) is buried.
