Looking For Help Locating a Town in Tyrone
« on: Saturday 16 January 21 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I recently found my ancestor, Thomas McSorley, in the New York Emigrant Savings bank books.  Those books listed family details to help identify customers.  Thomas gave his place of birth as “Curlough, Derrigan, Dromore parish, Tyrone.”  I have tried looking for that townland but am getting results for Aghaloo parish.  Derrigan doesn’t come back at all.  I know transcription errors may be a factor.

Can anyone help me locate his hometown?  He was born c. 1795 so perhaps names have changed.

Thanks!
Rick

Rick, is that source available to view online anywhere?

Have you viewed a transcription or the original document?

Hi Ruskin,

It is an ancestry collection. I am reading the original so the exact writing was Curlough, Derrigan, parish Dromore, county Tyrone.

Various spellings over the years:

I've also seen Corladergan, Corladargan, and Carladergan.

Ah yes!  Thanks very much all. I had not thought that the two place names in the original doc were actually a mis-transcription of one place!

Thank you all again.
