Help locating a death please?
« on: Saturday 16 January 21 14:09 GMT (UK) »
Im looking for the death of Richard Turner but im losing the will to live trying to find him. Richard was born in 1888 in Rotherham Yorkshire to a James W Turner and Maria Lawton. Richard married Alice Proctor in 1909 in Grimethorpe nr Barnsley. He enlisted in the West Yorks regiment in 1914 but according to his service records within 3 months he was considered unfit and sent home, he had at least 3 children, the last being in 1914. His sons marriage certificate in 1930 shows Richard as deceased. I have found a Richard Turner who died in 1916 but that death shows that he was killed in action in France. Was it possible to be discharged from the Army and then to reinlist with another regiment, which subsequently could have got him killed x

What was his address, there seems to be another service record (along with the two for Richard Turner, Rawmarsh)for a Richard Turner born 1886, married to an Alice, living at 13 Joseph Street, Grimethorpe, Barnsley.
Lots of pieces of paper but would appear he survived the war though complicated to work it all out.
I think they are discharge papers.
i might have the wrong Richard completely of course.

Hi
The records were on Findmypast, I don t think Ancestry have them(only with Fold3)
The following might be useful as it sounds like the same man (ex soldier, has TB, 5 chidren?)

https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch=%2brichard%20%2bturner%20%2bgrimethorpe&freesearch=richard%20turner%20grimethorpe&retrievecountrycounts=false&sortorder=score
It is the report "Mons Star Man"
I think you can get 3 pages free if you register, also on Findmypast.

Sheffield Telegraph 27 Jul 1920
Two Grimethorpe miners, Richard Turner & Thomas Entwhistle were charged with fowl stealing at Barnsley yesterday. Early on Saturday they admitted to breaking into the fowl house of an allotment belonging to Gordon Foster of Cudworth. They pleaded that they had got too much to drink. Turner was fined £3 and Entwhistle 40s.
