If you can stretch to it I think the 1920 Barnsley death certificate would be worth getting - a .pdf os about £7 from GRO. I know the age is out - your Richard would have been 32 not 38but informants are notoriously bad at getting age of death correct.

I think the 1920 death is a possibility too, December quarter so after his couple of misdemeanors, and can t find mention of him again, perhaps he died of TB.

Its not much help but limits your search parameters

 
Just to help bring your search limits down, seeing as Richard  Turner was a miner -you can rule out a pit accident death.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth
