Translation of Latin Probate 1625
« on: Sunday 17 January 21 14:24 GMT (UK) »
Please can anyone help with the role of Abraham Backer in this Probate.

The Will is of Sara de Backer, widow, and William and Sara are her underage children.  She appoints John Vander Brugg her Executor and Abraham Backer her Overseer.  I think Abraham is the brother of her deceased husband Jacob, but this is not spelt out in the Will.

I understand the dates and the swearing of the admin, but don't understand the middle bit.
Thanks for any help.

...Com(m)issio Abrahamo Backer patruo
Will(el)mi et Sare Backer liberorum n(atu)ralium et l(egi)timoru(m) dicte defuncte...

...Commission to Abraham Backer the paternal uncle
of William and Sara Backer the natural and lawful children of the said deceased...

The key word is patruo.

Thank you very much, horsleydown86, that's exactly what I needed.
Glad to know I'd got the relationships right and will make a note of 'patruo'.
