Reason “inmate” is given as occupation
« on: Sunday 17 January 21 16:28 GMT (UK) »
I have located an uncle on the 1841 census but I don’t understand why his occupation has been given as “inmate”. He doesn’t appear to be in a prison, workhouse or hospital.

It has been crossed out on the original census entry

ADDED There are similar entries on that page and adjoining pages all of which have been crossed out.
