Have you found by any chance Mary Jane Robinson's date of death. In terms of records, i'm seeing a few dates on ancestry around 1931-34, but a suspicious record of a Percy Phythian living with his mother, Mary J, though in Bristol, which is not where you'd expect.
Thanks

It looks as if that is her, death in Bristol 1940

This might help

Percy married 13 Nov 1918 , St Matthew, Gloucestershire, father Robert, one witness Richard Pythian , his wife Ivy Nee Williams she died 1964 Bristol probate to husband Percy.........Percy Phythian of Ventnor Av died 30 Mar 1974 Probate 1 May 1974, Percy dob from death record 20 Jul 1895

look for them on 1939 register we can’t post details  - Mary Jane Robinson dob from her baptism was
9 Jun 1866

Edit - Perhaps she went to live with her son Percy after the death of her husband

Robert Phythian died 23 Apr 1926 Rochdale, Lancashire
Probate 25 May 1926 to widow Mary Jane, Richard, machinist & Percy, engineer

Edit to add
GRO indexes confirm middle name of Mary J Phythian you would need to purchase 1940 d/c to check informants name.

The address Pinfold appears on the baptism of James & Jane's son John Robert ROBINSON 1854

The 1841 family of Lord/Robinson/Brierley in reply #16 are living in Pinfold. Again, could be coincidental as there are several pages in 1841 dedicated to Pinfold.
As far as I can see (which isn’t much) Pinfold was an area rather than a street. If you know Rochdale, it was close to Drake Street where the family were in 1851.

As William Robinson is not with his father James and 2 siblings on 1881 census there are these 2 possible death entries

Mar 1873 Rochdale William Robinson age 0

Dec 1876 Rochdale William Robinson age 4

William Robinson Death Age:4
Burial 10 Nov 1876 Edenfield, Lancashire,
You can view the burial entry here https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6LCN-TS?i=307 gives abode as Spotland, no details as to parents names

The death registration in 1876 of William Robison aged 4 was in Spotland sub-district.

William Robinson Death Age:4
Burial 10 Nov 1876 Edenfield, Lancashire,
You can view the burial entry here https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6LCN-TS?i=307 gives abode as Spotland, no details as to parents names

The burial before William at Edenfield was 31st October 1876 Mary Robinson aged 8, abode Spotland.

These may be baptisms of Mary and William at St. James, Ashworth:
2nd Aug. 1868 Mary Robinson daughter of William & Sarah. Abode Greenbooth. Occupation shepherd.
15th Sep. 1872 William Robinson son of William & Sarah Ann. Abode Shuttleworth. Occupation farmer.
Shuttleworth is near Edenfield.

Baptisms of other likely children of the couple:
1869 Henry. Abode Lower Naden
1870 Elizabeth. Abode Shuttleworth
1874 Richard Pye. Abode Cheesden Top Spotland
1876 Sarah Ann. Abode Spotland
William was a farmer on those 4 baptisms.
Lancashire Online Parish Clerks www.lan-opc.org.uk

Births of Mary 1868, Henry 1869, and Richard 1874 were registered in Spotland sub-district, mother's maiden surname Howarth.
Elizabeth 1870 and William 1872 were registered in Walmersley sub-district, mother's maiden name Howarth. This fits with abode Shuttleworth at baptism as the township was Walmersley-cum-Shuttleworth.
Sarah Ann 1876 was registered in Spotland sub-district.
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Probable marriage of parents William Robinson & Sarah Howarth 1867 St. Paul, Norden, Rochdale.

So, the William Robinson buried at Edenfield in 1876 was likely a son of William & Sarah and Mary who was buried 10 days earlier was probably their daughter.

Hi all,
I think we can safely call this genealogical mystery solved. I've followed up with the Lords and the line is well documented to the 17th century. Thanks to all who have helped me smash this brick wall  ;D
Thanks again
Francis
