Hello,
Could anyone help in identifying two early sporting ladies from Ontario? Mrs J.R. Burgess, a very distant relative, was active circa 1900 nand seems to have come from the south of the province (Norfolk county?).
Peter
Where is your link coming from to get to Mrs J R Burgess ? This might be the most accurate way of discovering which Burgess family.
Thanks for the replies. I had a look for a Mrs Annie Burgess in ancestry.com, but couldn't find anyone whose husband had the initials J.R. I wonder what the source for the first name Annie is?
I notice that a Mrs J.R. Burgess appears to have been a member of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire in Dresden, Ontario, in the early decades of the twentieth century, and that she was ailing circa 1929. There is a PDF file on the history of this organisation online, but it only has that one reference to Mrs J.R. Burgess.

Disregarding the Christian name "Annie" and using your theory of being born/living in Norfolk County - 1901 Norfolk Ontario. (should be Burgess)
James Burgers (Burgess) 27
Eva D Burgers(Burgess) 22
James L Burgers (Burgess) 3
Leta M Burgers (Burgess) 9 months.
Eva Dell Burgess fits with your other comment "ailing circa 1929" - Ontario deaths show she died 17 August 1932 Norfolk Ontario. Alas no source that she was a tennis player
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JKH7-2PBInterestingly we used to have a prolific poster asking about tennis players going back a few years -
Newmark401 - on the tennis forum he used, it is suggested Annie Burgess was from the US
