William Jones signature comparison

Are these signatures by the same William Jones.

The first one is a marriage in 1773 at Hull, Yorkshire

The second one is a marriage in 1776 at Beverley, Yorkshire.

Thanks Gadget.  I agree that the W's are quite different, but thought the Jones looked quite similar.

It's just my luck one is signed in full and the other didn't!

The first William is my direct ancestor, the second William appears in the right place to be the same person but the difference in the signatures doesn't help prove this.

William Jones isn't the rarest of names as I know very well. My tree is littered with Joneses 

Is there anything on the rest of the forms that can give some further info that might help?

The "ill" and "jones" are very similar. It's really only the W that is quite different. Perhaps he was experimenting with a more modern look for his capital W !

Hope nobody looks at my signatures over a period of time!
I also used a different signature for financial transactions to the one I used to use in employment for certifying work carried out etc.

Looking at the second one again - parts of the other signatures look very similar. Could they have been written by the same hand - registrar, clerk, etc.

It's a no from me.....Jones arghhh!!!! I wouldn't wish that surname on anyone especially from Wales
