Where did John Reeves come from?? **My 6th Grandfather**
« on: Monday 18 January 21 19:48 GMT (UK) »
Good evening,

I am wondering if anyone could help me.  I am looking to locate John Reeves baptism and parentage He is my 6th grandfather.

John Reeves married Martha Stephens on the 26th September 1790 in Malpas, Cheshire.  It says both of this parish, John - Oldcastle and Martha Stephens Cuddington. I have located Marthas baptism from her burial record.  She was born in 1756

I am assume John will be born the same decade similar year.  I have been hunting a baptism for John within this time scale.

A baptism I have located for a John Reeves baptised 1757 Middlewich which is 24 miles in current times.  I have no marriage for this John Reeves, but have located a John Reeves buried in Davenham from Middlewich no age but classed as a youngster in 1780 could this be the same person?  I dont think this could be my ancestor

Martha passed away in 1830 Malpas aged 74 years of age husband John Reeves.  I can't locate a death for John

They had 3 children
Richard Reeves born 1791 Baptised St Oswald, Malpas - my ancestor - married Mary Maddocks 30th December 1812 Malpas Cheshire

Mary Reeves born 1795 passes away 1826
William Reeves born 1798 - passes away 1819

Not sure if any other children they lived in Isycod of Malpas

Any help will be truly appreciated in this quest
Thanks in advance
Fiona

John Reeves of OLDCASTLE -
Oldcastle - Cheshire in the Parish of Malpas
but also
Oldcastle - Bridgend Wales
Oldcastle - County Meath Ireland
............
John Reeves baptised 21st October 1774 Malpas ,Cheshire - Parents Joseph Reeves and Sarah
I would not dismiss this because although it is his Baptism ,we don't know his birth year - he could have been an adult when baptised - I recently seen an adult aged 28 at her baptism
here it is
Baptism: 3 Nov 1915 St Cuthbert, Everton, Lancashire, England
Agnes Killip - [Child] of James Killip & Margaret
    Born: 19 Jul 1887
    Abode: 17 Letterstone Street
    Occupation: Pawnbroker
    Notes: Adult.
Baptised by: W. Clark Hudson M. A. Vicar
SO - at least research Joseph and Sarah for their marriage date etc - at least then you can dismiss it if they married around 1770 - then again - John Reeves may have only been 16 when he married ??

I think the John Reeves bapt 1774 in Malpas is the same one who is aged 26 and marrying Anne Thompson in Malpas in 1801, so not likely yours.

Both John and Martha must have been quite a bit older than usual to marry, does the marriage state if they were widowed beforehand?

A possibility is John Reeves, s/o John & Mary, baptised 1763 in Wrexham. (Only about 12 miles from Malpas).

In 1841 John Reeves, aged 75, is an Ag lab, not born in county, living in High Wych Street, Iscoyd, Malpas.

So he could have been born anywhere  ???

Jo - that looks a very good shout to me - although it is 12 miles now - by the express way - across the land in a straight line it is about 8 miles from Malpas to Wrexham - I wonder if there are any old country lanes still in existence for that route ...?

The above link is a Database of Cheshire Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials. It appears a little confusing at first to navigate, therefore it's essential to read up on how it's been compiled. It's the most comprehensive Online list I've come across for Cheshire Parish Records.
