Public Records Office Victoria (PROV) inquest index CD-ROM - available?
« on: Tuesday 19 January 21 03:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I've been using the PROV website for research, and keep coming up against the brick-wall of inquest details from 1962 to 1972 not being listed online.

All I'm really after are the name and reference number, ie: Fred Nurk - VPRS 10010/ P1, unit 193,  item 1964/661 , and so on. Once I have the item number, I can order a digital copy.

Due to my day job's hours, I can't go into PROV to manually look up the details there; and I'd rather not submit "look-up" requests here, as there's quite a lot I'm after.

I've heard that there is / was a CD-ROM which contained the relevant info, but haven't been able to find a library within reasonable travelling distance which has a copy.

So: does anyone know where to obtain one?

Hi Keats,
   Welcome to rootschat  :)

I've been trying to find an answer to your question.    From the Victoria State Library Research Guide, I found this info which seems to indicate it is on an optical disk available from Macbeth Genealogical Services 2000.

   I hope this helps ...

Hi Sue,

I'm after quite a few, that's the problem...

Most pressing, from the point of view of the research project I'm working on, are these:

Alec Danicevski (died 28/2/1971)
John William Deane (died 28/3/1970)
Peter John Healey / Healy (died 21/4/1967)
Eileen Parrish (died 29/1/1971)
Laurence Charles Wishart (died 22/11/1963)

Many thanks in advance!

Wow - thanks so much, Sue, that's brilliant! You've absolutely made my day...

Re: Wishart - my mistake; his first name was Randolph, not Laurence! The inquest may have been under the name of Sharon Brymer, who died in the same accident on 22/11/1963; their "body cards" are consecutive, Sharon's is first.

But what you've given me is just wonderful, I can't thank you enough!

And thanks also, Ros - I've contacted Macbeth; fingers crossed!

Yes, I have that one, but it's the actual inquest I'm after - the body card refers to various items that it doesn't actually contain; I'm hoping that the inquest will have them...

WISHART, Randolph Charles. Year 1964. Ref 157. Cause Motorcycle hit stationary truck. Inquest date 13/2/1964

You're welcome. If there are others, post them when you wish, but I do have to boot up some ancient technology so may take a little while.
