Jas Carruthers - Irish or Scots?
« on: Tuesday 19 January 21 16:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have a :
Capt Jas Carruthers Abt 1755-2nd Aug 1786, Ireland
Parents - Wm & Mary Carruthers
Wife - Frances Agnew Carruthers Abt 1753-10th Mar 1833, Ireland

I have the following reference for him from Findmypast:
1784 Cornet, Ist Horse, Blue, Blue Furn. Scotland, Edinburgh Field Officers from Almanacs 1758-1800 (no image FindMyPast)

My question is - does anyone know if this was  a Scots publication of army officers in general - or was it a publication of Scotland born Field Officers in the army?  I have evidence for him (and his father) in the First  Irish Regiment of Horse after 1784, but his sister seems to have been born in London in 1765.

This would/might help in looking for their birth.....
Many thanks

Crowe, Dublin
McClean, Dublin, Lucan, Armagh & Newry
Sharp, Wilburton & Cambridge,
Laffon - Castres en Tarn, Bordeaux, Amsterdam, Dublin

The original source for this item is most likely the Edinburgh Almanack for 1784.

Looking at editions of the Edinburgh Almanack available in Goggle Books, it appears that the military section is just a duplication of lists of officers published in the Army List. I wouldn't assume any particular affiliation with Scotland.
