Starting at basics

Age at marriage, occupation(s),fathers names, DATE of marriage , and witness names.
(So before the census of that year or after)

And you say he also went by Brown? When, where and on what was that?

Welcome from me too

As your newly found cousin is still alive and looking for her father - was she illegitimate?    Did she ever know anything about her father?

If not - how does she link to William O'Brien & Maria Audley

Hello everyone and thank you all for taking the time to answer

My cousin is still alive and yes she was illegitimate - unfortunately she knows nothing of her father. We are DNA matches on Ancestry as 2nd cousin once removed and all other DNA matches to her are on my maternal side on the O'Brien line.

William Brown O'Brien (1844) is my 2nd Great Grandfather - I have been told that he changed his name from O'Brien to Brown and I have found the family on the 1891 census using the name Brown (ref RG12/2930/64/6) with a Sarah Ann Brown (1887) and Ada Brown (1890)

And I would love to try and find ancestors before 1844 - we have been told William's father was Irish and changed his name to Brown and came to England due to some trouble as he was pro British, but not sure thats 100% true

Any help would be much appreciated

Paula

Doubtful about that - why would his children be O'Brien?

These are all the births in Liverpool between 1843-1845 with mothers maiden name

Carole, had a quick look at this post last night but wanted to see if op wanted to go back first. With regard to William a possible contender for his birth is the mq 1843 mmn Dawson. Believe he had a sister Mary Ellen sq 1841 mmn Dawson.

Possible parents marriage 3.8.1838 St James Walton on the Hill.

John O'Brien full age, bachelor, occ MARINER, father John OBrien dec, he signed

Sarah Dawson full age, spinster, father Joseph Dawson, dec.

John

added, William himself had a daughter Mary Ellen!
