Rear View Mirror Needs re fixing.

My rear view mirror in car has fallen off. I have purchased Adhesive Car Mirror Pads. The chap in shop said to remove small piece of square paper get a match heat it and attached to windscreen This sounds easy enough but how can black piece at back attach to my rear view mirror. Any help appreciated.

Is your adhesive pad not double sided, that is, with a piece of waxy paper on both sides, peel off one side and affix to windscreen, then peel the other paper off to stick your mirror to the pad.
If only adhesive on one side does it have a shaped piece which the mirror slides over and wedges?
Otherwise, buy an adhesive for windscreen to mirror direct gluing.

A set of instructions online says stick one side to the windscreen then heat the black side with a hairdryer for a minute,  then stick the mirror on, also says remove ariginal adhesive and clean both surfaces.

Thank you for this very useful information. The little pads I have are single adhesive. My husband bought them in car dealership and he was given instructions on how to use. Unfortunately he misheard only remembered chap saying heat side with lit match but could not remember which side to heat. Now with this information I hopefully know how to use.
