Help with missing death after 1851

Dear Rootschat,

After my previous brick wall was broken down thanks to this forum, I hope no one minds me requesting some more new pairs of eyes please.

My ancestor Mary Ann Mellon was born c1806 to 1811 in Surrey or London and married John Gooda in Bermondsey in 1826.

The surname Gooda is also found as
Good, Goode, Goody and Goodey and other variants.

However I am trying to find out what happened to Mary Ann Mellon|Gooda.

She is in the census in 1851 at 4 Eagle & Child Court, Lambeth, Surrey with her children. Her husband had died in 1847. After this I have found no trace of her.

There is an 1853 death of a Mary Ann Gooda but this is for a 19 year old in Loddon and Clavering.

There is also Jun 1854 Goodday Mary St George Southwark 1d 124 but this is for a woman aged 74, so can't be her.

If anyone can please help.find Mary Ann, I would be very grateful!

Have you checked to see if she remarried, I see that there are several marriages in the period 1851-1861 in various parts of London with various possible versions of her surname.  You could check the most obvious spelling first and see if she is in the 1861 census and any children from the first marriage - they may be under the surname Gooda or the new husband's name.

I've found a few missing people by looking for their children. We'll worth looking into, even if there surname does change, Christian names, year and place of birth can give clues.

Daughter Frances Eleanor Gooda married (as Goody) on 1 Sep 1867 at St Mary, Lambeth, Lambeth, to
John Thomas Hart. witnesses John and Ellen Murcutt. So she should be on 1861 as single woman, probably in Lambeth or nearby

I have a sub to Ancestry and have looked for any marriages 1851-1861 in the London C of E Marriages And Banns for any Mary of any surname with father name Mullen (and variants) and cannot find any obvious Mary Goodey/Gooda etc marriages. If she did remarry it could have been registry office or NC.

I cannot seem to find Frances or her mother or siblings in 1861, I think some areas of Lambeth 1861 census have not survived.

I have found Frances and husband in 1871. A few months after census they have a daughter Mary Elizabeth Solon(??) Hart, who goes on to marry a Joseph James Gooda age 35 occ seaman s/o John Gooda dec'd vet surgeon in Poplar on 27 Jan 1895. Frances Hart is a witness

Have you seen the dr for Mary Ann Good Q2 1879 St Saviour Southwark RD age 72 years?

In the 1851 census, youngest son John is recorded as 2 years old, i.e. born 1848/1849 - was he conceived before his father died?

Here is a link to an old thread from 2005 which lists known streets in Lambeth in 1861 which are missing from the 1861 census. May be useful and may explain why the Gooda family cannot be found in 1861.

That 1861 census would have been helpful in finding what became of Mary after 1851.
