Not them, then. Sigh. I get the impression they didn't like filling out paperwork or abiding by the law.  ;)

In 1851 John and Jane have had another child i.e. Jane bc.1842 Crossland, Yorkshire.

Registration district is Huddersfield and can find an Ann Jane Isherwood registered Huddersfield June quarter 1842 - mmn Hamer.

A John Isherwood married a Jane Hamer 21/4/1828 Bolton le Moors, Lancashire.

In 1861 - as Jno and Jane Isherwood they are in Bury, Lancashire and dau. Jane is this time shown as Ann Jane which would seem to confirm that Jane senior was indeed Jane Hamer.

That looks like an interesting find!
I just wanted to point up that although a name like "Bennett Isherwood" might at first sight seem very easy to trace accurately, it's also easier to confuse if there is more than one of that name at around the same age - and the two baptismal records (John / Jane and James / Betty) might point to two different people - and the brother "Squire" is a helpful one to have around to try and distinguish one family from the other.
Have you used "Lancs Parish Clerks online" - really good parish register transcriptions, and free.

Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Yes, I have had the problem with a number of Bennett Isherwoods. Squire is not so common, but Bennett definitely is more common around the Lancashire area at that time.

The names Jane/John/James/Ellen seem to ‘fit’ more with the family rather than the name Betty and her family. (Although I’m aware this isn’t proof on its own).

The records I have found were on non-conformist records.

That newspaper article is interesting, something to look into further. Thank you.

I've just looked on that Lancashire Parish Records Online, it's really helpful!

No firm evidence, but assuming the surname of HAMER for Jane (thank you for the post about that above), her parents were John and Hannah. These names seem to fit the family with John and Hannah being children of Jane and John Isherwood also.

Bennett's parents could possibly be Thomas and Nancy.

Jane and Bennett appear to be the same age on the 1841 census, so these parents seem to fit that with both 'children' being born in 1810 which would fit.

Hi  I am related to Timothy and Ellen Donovan.  Their Son Edward born abt 1830 was a convict and sent to western Australia in 1854.  When Edward was arrested he changed his name to Dunn.  On prison records it states his father is Timothy Donovan.
Would love any more information you have on this family.  I live in Western Australia
