The adoptive mother died in child birth having my mums sister Jean who was brought up by an aunt and uncle and now lives near me and I see her regularly. Complicated I know.  Jean is married to my dad's younger brother.

I do wonder why we are finding nothing in Scotland  ???

There is a tree on Ancestry with a GSF, (born on May 2 1911, in Seaham, Easington, Durham, England) , possible marriage(age 39) Sunderland 1951(from FreeBMD) , and a death in Lancashire England(added - April 11 2002, at age 90 in Burnley and Bundle, Lancashire, England).

Might be worth a look as we don't seem to be finding anything in Scotland  :-\

If she was married by 1955 , I wonder how the lawyer managed to track her to Dumfries(or a misheard Durham) ?
Perhaps there was something in the adoption papers or those involved were still in contact ?

Many thanks ev. I shall have a look at this. My mother was told of this at 19 years of age so perhaps made a mistake of the town. She was never given her adoption papers or birth certificate and when her father died they were not in the house. We acquired a copy of her birth certificate from Edinburgh.    Thanks your help is much appreciated.

If you follow Annie's advice(see reply #26) and obtain the adoption papers that might give you further information.
I checked the 2002 death but there doesn't seem to be a Will.

As the daughter of your deceased mother, you will have rights to your mothers' adoption papers as a 'Prescribed Relationship' which came into effect in 2005.

I wasn't aware of this, Annie.

Drumbowie, certainly looks promising for you to follow up further  :)

wivenhoe, events are too recent to publish people's names online.  Whilst the birth mother may be deceased, her children will likely not be given possible birth years for them. This is why Ev has edited the post from the beginning of the thread  :) For sure Drumbowie can provide more details via PMs.

My question relates to the time when information was acquired / passed on.

I am not using, or asking for, any names.

My question only requires a yes/no answer....not names
