Laura White (1897-2003)

Hello everyone,

I am still looking into the oldest people from the North East, you guys helped me out a lot last month with a particularly elusive centenarian - https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=841423.0

I have a similar problem again with another individual. Laura White died on 27 Dec 2003 of a chest infection at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, aged 106. Her usual residence was Allen Court Nursing Home, Benwell, and her death certificate states she was born on 5 March 1897. She is listed as a widow but gives no maiden name or name of any husband. The informant appears to be a care home worker.

I am drawing a blank on all ends with this one. I have tried looking for marriage records for women called Laura marrying a Mr White, but none of them lead to anything. I have tried looking at Scottish records, but there was nothing turning up there either. Apart from her death certificate, Laura White just doesn't seem to exist.

If anyone if up for a challenge, it would be a huge help to me if we could find out more about this woman's life.

There is a marriage in the Civil Registrations showing William T White marrying a Laura Thompson in the June Qtr 1918 in the South Shields District.

Ancestry points towards the 1901 Census for Laura Thompson, age 3 years, born and living in Wallsend. Parents Frank William and Ann.

A look for William T White shows a birth registration for a William Thomas White, birth registered September Qtr 1897, Tynemouth District. 1901 and 1911 Census returns shows him as been born in Howdon (near to Wallsend) and living in the Wallsend area. A William T White died in the June Qtr 1959 in the Northumberland South District (which covers Wallsend).

niece aged 14 to Adam Humble widower,
 even though named Laura Isabel on her birth reg she seems to go by the name of Isabel

Confusing situation.

Looking at this particular family, Frank William Thompson was married to Ann Foster in 1885 in South Shields, Co Durham. Their daughter, Laura White, was apparently born Q3 1896 in Tynemouth Reg District (as per gro.gov.uk), so would not have been born on 5 Mar 1897. That's not to say that the DOB given in 2003 was 100% accurate, but does not appear to match as things stand.

Interesting that the DOB matches, but not the name. I have just tried to look for any marriage between an Isabel (or Isabella) to a William White between 1915 and 1939 within 10 miles of Newcastle, but to no avail as of yet.

Ah yes. The names would make sense, and the birth quarter would match (Q2 1897, registered probably April 1897), and the location.

Adam Dunlop Humble married Isabella Skelly in Alnwick in 1897 so 100 % sure he is her uncle
