I have a birth certificate for an Elizabeth Ellen Robertson, b1905 in Bury St Edmunds, which states her father's name as Alec Moncrieff Robertson and her mother as Mary Markham.

Does Mary show as Mary Robertson, previously/formerly Markham or Mary Markham?

1871 - Meal Market Close Off High Street (Inverness)

Alexander Robertson 18 (c1852/53) Lodger - Porter ::)

Others in the household;

Ann Kennedy 47 Head - Labourer's wife
John     "       19 Son
Jessie   "       16 Dau

The name Jessie again is intriguing, could Ann be an aunt i.e. sister of the Janet/Jessie in the workhouse who in turn may be the mother of Alexander?

Not to say this is the correct chap or he's related to the above but it's a lead to begin with from the little known about him as this looks to be the same chap earlier in the workhouse in 1861?

He's the only Alexander I could find born specifically Inverness rather than Inverness-shire.

1881 - 8 Kings Lane Tomnahurich St (Inverness)

Alexander Robertson 32 (c1848/49) Boarder - Slater  ::)

In the household of Jane MacLennan 73

Being a Lodger/Boarder isn't of help in identifying his roots although this again looks to be the same chap?

Can you pick out any of those names from the maternal line?

Normally although not always used...

1st son after paternal g/father
2nd son after maternal g/father
1st dau after maternal g/mother
2nd dau after paternal g/mother

Annie

Edit...Does he use his full title on census or just Alexander/Alec/Alex?

He's always Alec on all documents I've found. I'm not totally confident about the work I've done on the maternal line so far, but none of the names match who I believe are her parents.

Hi just been looking at this site and see you are asking about Alec Moncrieff Robertson. I am Ada Bertha Moncrieff Robertson's (Cracknell)Grandaughter. I have been trying to find out about Alec for ages and keep hitting a brick wall. Before my mum (Ada's daughter In law) died she told me that Alec and Mary were not married. Obviously Ada was very ashamed about this and only a few people knew. I would be grateful if you have any info about him. Also trying to find out where he is buried. My assumption would be that Alec came from Scotland leaving a family behind therefore he was unable to marry.  I look forward to hearing from you.  I am on MyHeritage and Ancestry you are welcome to view my trees.  Kind regards   Linda Borg (Cracknell)
