Mary Ann Sutcliffe/MacDonald - when exactly did she die?
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 12:39 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor Mary Ann Lane was born in Rotherhithe on the 4 Oct 1871.

She married John Sutcliffe in 1891.
She had various children with him
He died in 1913.

Mary Ann then married again in 1918 to John MacDonald.

I have 3 further records of her after that:
1924 Electoral Roll where she was living at Mermaid Court, Southwark - just down the road from her son (my grandafather) Henry Sutcliffe who lives at no 17 Mermaid Court.

Then in 1926 Electoral Roll she was still living in Mermaid Court accompanied by her sons William and Arthur Sutcliffe, and her husband John MacDonald.

in 1939 she was living at 14 Prioress Street, Southwark where she was a widow.

Various family trees on Ancestry have a death for a Mary Ann SUTCLIFFE in Islington in March 1958 - 5C 1099

My question is why would she still be calling herself Sutcliffe when she was by then a MacDonald? And is this the correct death registration for her?

Thanks Allan. That makes far more sense. I couldn't understand why she would end up in Islington when she spent all her life in Southwark.

It's also a lesson in not taking information from other people's trees without checking.
