That James was a carpenter might prove useful as a James Hibberd, wheelwright of Witchampton, left a will in 1779. Might he be the father of the James in the first post? His will only mentions his wife Mary.

Richard

I had wondered that when I saw the will. The only James Hibbard buried in Witchampton I can find around that time is in 1775, and he was born about 1750, so he would be similar age to my James. Perhaps James d 1779 was actually buried somewhere else.

Just realised that date is from a memorial inscription, I can't find a burial in the records for 1775, but there is one for a James in 1777, no age stated. Could he be the one and will not proved until some time after? Burial was 2 December so very late in the yea.
