Catherine May Tilley
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 18:02 GMT (UK) »
I have a Catherine May Tilley born 30 Jan 1908 (from 1939 register) and have confirmed from GRO birth registration (1908 May Qtr Pontypridd 11a 634) that her mother was a Wallace.

Have found a marriage for a John Tilley to a Maggie Wallace in Pontypridd in 1902.

Have also found births for a William Isaac Tilley (1903) and a Leonard Gustavus Tilley (906).

However I have not been able to find any details of either John Tilley or Maggie Wallace (not able to locate the 1911 census).

Before purchasing a marriage cert. thought I would try Rootschat for help

On Findmypast look for William Isaac LILLEY 1904 (added also on Ancestry as Lilley)

FamilySearch has mangled the transcription for the 1911

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW6P-J5P

but shows John as John Charles. His age is possibly a little out as there's a possible birth reg march qtr 1883 vol 11a pg 412 mmn Lawrence

1891 census with grandparents
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HMM1-LMM

His WW1 records are online. He claimed to be 29 when he enlisted 5 Sept 1914. The marriage was 26 Dec 1902 in the register office at Pontypridd. Current address 14 Scotts St, Cardiff.
Children
William Isaac 12 Oct 1903
Leonard Gustavus 26 Dec 1905
Catherine May 30 Jan 1908
John Charles 15 Jan 1912
Christobel 27 Dec 1913 Cardiff
all others born Pontypridd
There's a letter from his widowed mother included, her address 12 Richmond Terrace, Llanbradach.

His widow is also at 12 Richmond Street, "Llanbradock" in 1921. JOhn died 19 Feb 1921 of secondary anaemia bilharzia??

Another address for Maggie is 21 Oakfield St.

records are rather damaged so not clear where he served in order to contract this condition

Interestingly his death appears to have been registered in Neath (and age slightly out)

Records suggest he may have been a civilian by he time he died. He was discharged 7 Feb 1919, but was in receipt of an army pension.
