Daniel Belcher - bapt. 1825 Appleton, Berks (s/o Esther)
« on: Monday 25 January 21 03:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I have found a baptism for Daniel Belcher 25-7-1825 in Appleton, Berks (Illeg. s/o Esther Belcher).

There is no sign of Esther being bapt., married or bur. in this parish also;
Daniel was privately bapt. "by reason of removal". This latter comment taken from Berks FHS CD

Can anyone  please find Esther's bapt. and presumably
the removal was  she came from another parish?

any help would be appreciated/

Alan

Was he the Daniel buried at West Hanney age 8?
There's a Hesther Belcher bapt at Great Coxwell on 21 Oct 1804 d/o William and Ann
She married Joseph Wheeler in Coleshill in 1826.
They are on 1851 census: Piece:   1687, Folio 381; Page   1
and 1841: Piece 27, Book 16, Folio 16 Page 27 in Uffington, but can't see a West Hanney connection.

Looking at a map I think the family I found are too far west.
Hopefully the removal order will turn up

Hi LizzieL,

Hopes were raised but looking at the maps, I agree Coleshill & Gt.Coxwell seem too far away from
Appleton, but then if she was there only to have Daniel, Esther could have come from any parish.

Unfortunately there is no reference to either Daniel or Esther in the Berks Overseers' Papers records.

Have you seen Esther Belcher age 30 on 1841 census in West Ilsley occ servant?
She married George Dore in 1843. Daughter Catherine birth reg on GRO confirms mmn. 1851 says she was born abt 1804 in Hanney.

Hi,

Yes I do have  an  Esther Belcher (B. abt 1804) marrying George Dore in the Wantage Dist. 1843 and having Catherine Dore in 1845.
I have just been thru the fiche records for Hanney but sadly no Esther Belcher is listed in the period 1790 - 1812 (my fiche records go upto 1812 only).

In the 1861 census  Esther is a widow and an "Innkeeper" of the Arrow Inn, West Ilsley.

I have also recorded a Charles Belcher the illeg. s/o Esther bapt. 1831 East Challow. (might not be correct Esther)

Alan

Correction - I don't have the 1841 census - will try and get a copy. A

Hi Youngtug,

Many thanks for that info. It might add to my "Froud" families as well.
