RICHARD ROGERS of Bersham, Denbighshire
« on: Monday 25 January 21 11:53 GMT (UK) »
I’m trying to confirm parentage and information about Richard Rogers whose birth is given as:
(1841 census): 1826, Denbighshire
(1851 census): 1823, Nant, Denbighshire
(1861 census):  1822, Bersham, Denbighshire
(1871 census):  1816, Pant, Denbighshire
(1881 census):  1820, Minera, Denbighshire

On these census records he is listed as a Butcher and is living with wife Mary Ann b.1825 Brymbo. His children are listed as Elizabeth b.1844 Wrexham, Daniel b.1845/6 Minera, John Phinehas b.1860 Bersham and Llewellyn b.1863 Bersham.

The only marriage I can find for a Richard Rogers to a Mary Ann in and around the area is to a Mary Ann Rogers in 1849 Wrexham Vol 27 Page 464. I realise that both Elizabeth and Daniel’s births come before this 1849 marriage. Could either of them been in a previous marriage? – Presumably if they were Mary Ann’s children from a previous marriage, Elizabeth and Daniel would be listed as step-children?

In trying to establish Richard’s parents I have found a baptism for Richard Rogers 20 Dec 1818 Wrexham by Richard and Anne (Denbighshire baptisms page 235). I also have a marriage of Richard Rogers to an Anne Humphreys 14 Feb 1818 Wrexham.  There are a couple of baptisms of Richard Rogers Senior in that area (1 Feb 1790 – Rob & Mary) and 6 Jun 1788 – Richard May) but I can’t be sure if either are correct.

Any comments would be welcome.

Kenrick, that’s a new name in the mix and needs investigating further.

Yes, I thought the big gap in between the first two children and the second two was unusual and wondered if children had been born and died in between the censuses.

Given they had sons Daniel & John Phineas I think Osprey certainly has the right marriage

North Wales Bmd site confirms the 1849 marriage of Richard Rogers as a civil/register office marriage.

I was pleased to see the father as Phineas.

baptism 25 July 1824 in Wrexham for Mary, daughter of Phineas Hendrick, collier, & Hannah of Brymbo.

2 possible death regs for Thomas Rogers both sept qtr 1849 Wrexham vol 27 pg 214, one age 28 or one age 31.

The 28 year old may be the burial in Minera 12 July 1849 Thomas Rogers 27 of Coed Poeth.
