On the 1939 census she is down as being born 5th march 1888.
she was married on the 28th April 1917 in Nottingham.
Her father was a metal smith.
One of her daughters was Clara.
I sent away for her birth certificate but was told there was no trace of her whatsoever.

One of her daughters was Clara.

Would that be Clara Lily?  Maybe named after Clara Lily Lowe (married Albert Spivey in 1907)?

Clara Lilian Law mmn Roebuck born 1883
GRO Reference: 1883  S Quarter  Sheffield Volume 09C  Page 515

Joseph Law mmn Roebuck born 1885
GRO Reference: 1885  M Quarter Sheffield  Volume 09C  Page 468

They are presumably children of Annie Hays as listed in the 1891 census.

It looks like Sarah Ellen Lowe was most likely the daughter of Mary E Hays who is listed on the 1901 census. EDIT - I'm not so sure about that now. Joseph's wife on the 1911 census is Annie again. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWKK-Y6B "Mary E" must be a transcription error by the enumerator.

There is a death for an Albert Law aged 24 in Sheffield in 1887. He was buried at Burngreave cemetery on 25 October.

Marriage for Albert Law, 19, a grinder, (father Edward Law, a grinder)  and Annie Roebuck Helliwell (father Joseph Roebuck Helliwell, wire drawer), spinster, 18, at Christ Church, Pitsmoor, 28 November 1882.

well on her death certificate it says she was 79 when she died and the date of death is 1st march 1966.

on her wedding certificate it says...she was 28 in 1917.....

1966-79  = 1887
1917 -28 = 1889

What age is given on the 1911, Shaun?

Death age are usually not that accurate to the months in a year as most informants of a death to the registrar are not always family members with birth date details and just know the deceased's age at time of death.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

You should know by now, Dobfarm, that  I am quite aware of the vagaries of  ages and deaths given.
