What's Mary's Surname?
« on: Saturday 30 January 21 01:21 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone work out what the bride's surname in the top entry on this image is?

It might be either Pamlin or Tamlin but I'm not certain.

This has puzzled me for a while so any help would be welcome.

Matt

Matt, have you posted the correct snip as there's nothing on that snip resembling either name?

Did you post the right image Matt? Are you looking for the surname of the Elizabeth who married John (what looks like) Bing?  :-\

If so that surname looks to start with an H - I can’t see Pamlin or Tamlin there at all.

Hi all

Sorry for the mix up. It is the correct image, unfortunately I was reading notes on another family when posting this. It just go to show don't try to read and write different things at once lol!

I actually think Elizabeth's name may well be Haulke or something like that. I'm pretty sure it starts "Haul" but what do other think?

Not sure of the last letter, but it looks like Hulbez to me. The last letter is not like the one in Elizabeth but I think it is common to find changes in a letter at the end of a word than one in the middle.

Hulbez? Now that's an unusual name.

It would be useful perhaps to have a slightly bigger snip for comparison of letters.
The word looks like Hulkes to me though. I can’t see an ‘au’ after the ‘H’ at the start of the word as in Haulke as you suggest.
