Hello Annie, unfortunately I only know the month and year my uncle was born. This does not match the alleged date of birth of the match's father. But as already written, there is no record of the birth. I wonder if the place of birth will remain in the new birth certificate issued or will it be replaced?

Place of birth remains - so my husbands adoptive certificate LOOKS like a normal birth certificate (albeit a reissued one) however his is a Northern Irish Birth Certificate with a Welsh place of birth

If he was born at the end of March, he may not have been registered until Jun Qtr.

Do you have the details of the birth from your match i.e. Date/Month/Yr/County?

Does any of it match, if not, is there a possibility a 2nd child was also adopted?

If so, you could do a search without forename, within the amounts possible on your searches, a very long process but it should find your uncle with his mms if of course he was actually registered.

Was the mother married at the time your uncle was adopted?

How sure is your source of the name of the child, how did they found out, could there have been an error as to the name?

Something else to consider is there may be a lower case 's' on the index entry which signifies 'superseded' which can point to adoption although not always & I don't know when this came about, whether more recent than 1940s.
I will add, this doesn't apply to Scottish records & I don't know whether or not similar is applied to N/Irish records.

Hi Annie, my grandmother was a widow at the time of the uncle's birth.
She had given 2 children up for adoption. The one child is known. However that came about.
Unfortunately I have not been able to get any other information from the other siblings. They don't know any more. There is no birth certificate either.
So only the month, the year, the neighbourhood and the name are known.

Does your match have the exact birth date & county for their relative?

It's likely your adopted uncle was registered in your g/mother's married surname which will show her maiden name on the index too.

As there were 2 adoptions, I wouldn't get hung up on the forename you have, stories can be mixed up along the way, it's the surnames you need to concentrate on with the exact birth date & county of the match to narrow down your search.

the person i have a match with whose father i suspect is the adopted uncle.i have searched from ancestry to familysearch. there is no birth index of this man. Only a marriage index

There will be no indexed birth record for the chap in his adopted name.

Do you have the details of the qtr & county of your matches birth?

If so, you need to search that qtr & county with your g/mother's marital surname for your uncle & her maiden name on freebmd or gro sites.

I'm not sure if you can understand me but it's the best way I can put it across?
