Address in Eastbourne - 1916
« on: Saturday 30 January 21 12:33 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone identify the bride's address from this marriage certificate, please?

The marriage took place at St Michael and All Saints Church in Eastbourne in 1916.  (see attached extract)  I think she may have been staying with a relative of his, she was born 1888 in Hertfordshire, and haven't found her in 1911, think she was probably in service somewhere.

He is from Plumstead and an Explosive Worker - so I assume he is working at The Royal Arsenal?

I cannot decipher her address, not being local to the area, any ideas?

Sadly he dies just two years later - awaiting DC to find out whether it was the Spanish Flu or something else.   She never remarried, spent most of her life in service in London, then returned to her birth town in Hertfordshire, until her death in 1972.  So sad.

Thanks,  Pam

Though it looks like G Nathiam Street, it wouldn't be Northiam Street would it?

Maybe the G stands for "Great"?  :-\

Could the G be a 6?
I agree with Northiam Street.

Of course - a 6 seems logical.  :)

Not the complete picture but ....:

(I was hoping to see if it was called Northiam Street or Road - though it could have been an error on the certificate). Numbers may have changed but you can see No 6 on google street view - at least you will get an idea of the houses in the area.

That's great, thanks.  I now need to find 6 Northiam Street/Road in the 1911 census perhaps to see who was living there.

Good afternoon,

On the modern map in Ruskie's link it is shown as Northiam rd. If you turn in from Green st no 6 is the 3rd house on the right, by the second red car.

It was previously called Northiam st. On the following map there is just enough to see the "st" marked on the map.

PS map too big, will just sort it.

Thanks for the clarification John. I wasn’t sure if I’d found the right road.  ;)
