Looking for a Thomas Riddel(l) and his brother Alexander Riddel(l) in Australia

Hi,

I have never searched for someone in Australia before so I don't even know where to start.

Firstly, apologies as I have very little information on the two people I'd like to see if I can get more information.  What I have is the following.

I am looking for a Thomas Riddel(l) born about 1828 in England and his brother Alexander Riddel(l) born about 1830 in England.  All I have to go on is a mention in a book that they went from London, England to Australia.  The book also indicates that Thomas went during the gold fever.

Their parents were John Riddel(l) (born about 1785) and Margaret Cochrane (b. 1786), who moved around from Portsea, Hampshire to Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, back to Portsea, and London and Chatham.

I have no idea if Thomas and Alexander married, had a family, stayed in Australia or anything.

Would anyone be able to give me some help or at least give me suggestions on how to go about seeing if I can find them in Australia?

Here is a Victorian death notice that might be worth considering in 1907

"Alexander RIDDEL ....husband of the late Jane......father of M J....colonist of 54 years..."

This would place his arrival in the Victorian Gold rush.

Here is the death registration. The father's name is not as you have stated.

On the original marriage certificate for this couple, which I have seen on Ancestry, the father of Alexander is shown as John RIDDELL.

Alexander is a tailor. A bachelor. His father is I think, a messenger.

The surname of Jane is written a few times on the document and is clearly MIHELL
Her father Thomas is a tailor
Witnesses look to be William and Sarah BONE.
