Richard and Amelia Renfrey
« on: Monday 01 February 21 15:59 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the date and other details of Richard and Amelia Renfrey's arrival in Australia.
Richard was born 1842 in Gwennap, Cornwall and Amelia (née Bray) was born about 1842 also in Cornwall.   They appear to have been married 1 Jun 1863 in Lanner, Cornwall.   They settled in the area of Ballarat, Victoria where their 13 children were born between the years 1866 and 1884.
They therefore immigrated to Australia between 1863 and 1866.    I have found a record of an Amelia Renfrey, age 22, arriving in New South Wales from Liverpool on 8 Dec 1864.   She is however recorded as a spinster.
Any further information gratefully received.
Dave

So looks to me that the husbands may have come out first, followed by the wives.

I have a feeling that this has been covered before, on Rootschat.

Sue

Thank you, Sue.

It’s funny how some of these things sit in the back of our minds.

Thank you for all your information.   I was more concerned this time around for information/confirmation of immigration of Richard and Amelia into Australia.   I agree that it is most likely that the men left UK before the wives, who followed along afterwards, despite being listed as 'spinsters'.
Thank you Jamjar for the list of children etc, I was not aware of the existence of 2 Amelias.   however, I do find the birth dates confusing, would it be possible to clarify?
Thanks again, Dave

They are not birth dates, but are the VICBDM registration number, which includes the year.

The 2 Amelia’s were also shown in a post on your previous thread, as provided by Sue.
