Burial Details [Latin]
« on: Monday 01 February 21 16:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am hoping someone here might be able to help me with these two burial records which relate to the Billinghurst family in Kent. The problem is that although I can read the names, the records seem to be in Latin and I'm not sure I am reading them correctly.

Extract 1 is for Robert Billinghurst [son of Zacharias?]

Extract 2 is for Vincent Billinghurst

Can anyone help me with the wording of these?

Thanks

Matt

Vicesimo sexto die Julii 1617 Robertus
Billingherst filius Zacharie sepultus
est

On 26 July 1617 Robert Billingherst son of Zachariah was buried

Duodecimo die Octobris 1617
Vincentius Billingherst pater
familias sepultus est

On 12 October 1617 Vincent Billingherst pater familias was buried

Pater familias is literally 'father of the family', but I don't remember ever seeing that as a term in English. I've come across it a lot in one parish, and it seems to refer to the senior male in the family who was ancestor of all the others - in my case he had several sons living and with children in the same parish.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Fantastic. Many thanks for that.

I thought that the second extract included the phrase "Pater familias" but I wasn't certain I read it right as it is a bit faint on the image.
