Birth puzzle help please-England or Ireland?
« on: Monday 01 February 21 16:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for help in finding the birth of a Margaret McIlwaine. She married in 1910 to Albert Harmes, both age 22 at the time, in Belfast Ireland, her father is given as James McIlwaine, a blacksmith. She is in Eastbourne England in 1911 at home with their first son Thomas aged 5 months, but no husband. Rumor in the family was that she born to English parents, quite possibly in Ireland around 1888 time. Ive found her in a boarding school in 1901 Ireland aged 15. Another family rumor was that her father was sent to Australia and her mum abandoned her, which is why she ended up in the boarding school. I have absolutley no idea where to find a birth for her, i think she had a sister Sarah that came to England with her but i cant be sure. Thankyou in advance xxx

Also forgot to mention, Margarets daughter took a DNA test recently and there was no Irish traceable in her which makes me think that Margeret McIlwaines parents were English and not Irish.

She is down as Maggie Macilwaine, aged 15. She at a college and boarding school in Dublin, the address is 27 Townsend Street, Trinity, Dublin. I cant find any sister called Sarah McIlwaine there though.

I've looked at irishgenealogy.ie but none of the Margarets born 1880 - 1890 in Belfast have father James.

ADDED: neither do any of the Margarets registered in Lisburn or Ballymena.

It would help, Worth, for you tell tell us where you HAVE looked with negative results, please

There is a family here but no Margaret/Maggie in 1901 and 1911 census. I know she won’t be with them in 1911.
Father, James is a Blacksmith and the children born England.

Doesn’t seem to fit at all  :-\
