Richard RALEIGH, convict, arrived January 1838 Sydney, on Neptune 4
« on: Tuesday 02 February 21 03:47 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out what became of Richard Raleigh (born about 1818) who was sentenced to 7 years' transportation for larceny in Limerick Ireland. He arrived in Sydney in January 1838. The last mention I can find of him is his Ticket of Leave dated 14 May 1842 allowing him to remain in Melbourne.

Can anyone find any later info for him?

NSW archives may explain how he came to be in Victoria.

Trove has article on his ticket of leave Melbourne February 1845

This is later than you said so had he just failed to collect
or had a minor offence that delayed him getting it?

He may have been in Ballarat in December 1860

Try Mr Raleigh and Mr R Raleigh in Trove too.

I assume you have seen what is in the Victorian State Archives index.

Hope this is of use

phenolphthalein, thanks for the feedback. I did find the TOL and Ballarat articles but didn't think to search for "Mr R Raleigh". I'd forgotten about the Vic State Archives Index - I went to the website but couldn't find how to search. Do I need to do a search on each category or is there a combined search?
