Denholm / Whiteford
« on: Tuesday 02 February 21 09:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find information on my great great grandfather Robert Denholm. He was born c1864 in Dumfries, and at some point emigrated to Queensland, Australia and married Jean Robertson Dewar on Dec 25 1900. They had one son Robert William Albert Denholm, however I'm unsure if he is actually Robert Denholm's son.

Robert and Jean's marriage certificate list his parents as Robert Denholm and Marion Whiteford.
His father Robert's profession is listed as carpenter and joiner.

I haven't been able to find out when Robert died, but Jean remarried an Albert Jackson in 1920 and their marriage certificate lists her as a widow.

I've tried searching for more information on these Denholm's but haven't been able to find anything on the parents. Nothing comes up in Ancestry, and I haven't been able to find any information in ScotlandsPeople either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sam

Writing from the steamer Ulysses, when off Newcastle, Mr. James BLACK says, 'I have now traced Robert D. BLACK, , known as Robert DENHOLM, who, I find, met with an accident at Cattle Creek sugar mill and lost an arm, and some years later, was found dead alongside the railway line some
where near Cairns, about 8 to 10 years ago. I am now making inquiries for his widow, who was Miss
Jean R. DEWAR. They were married in December 1900, at Mackay".
