3061492 PTE James George Williams Royal Scots Regiment
« on: Tuesday 02 February 21 15:19 GMT (UK) »
Hello. Can somebody give me any information on 3061492 PT James George Williams of the Royal Scots Regiment.
I am trying to ascertain when he enlisted and his address at the time. Was his next of kin Aunt Iris Macfarline of Leith, Edinburgh. He was killed in action on the 19th March 1943 and he is mentioned on Face 4 of the RANGOON MEMORIAL CEMETERY. Does that mean they never found his body?
A little background on him he was born 1915 Newport Monmouthshire, parents were James and Eunice Charlotte (Watkins) Williams. James snr emigrated to australia in1921 leaving the family behind. Eunice died of TB in 1926 at Llanhilleth, Monmouthshire. In 1929 James sent for both his sons to join him in Australia. He arrived November 1929 at some stage returning to the Uk and i think joined his Aunt Iris Macfarlane in Leith. Edinburgh.
Best

The RANGOON MEMORIAL bears the names of almost 27,000 men of the Commonwealth land forces who died during the campaigns in Burma (now Myanmar) and who have no known grave.

https://www.cwgc.org/visit-us/find-cemeteries-memorials/cemetery-details/100/Rangoon%20Memorial

You can see from this CWGC list that if a grave was subsequently found, it was noted on the record. https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2528507/JAMES%20GEORGE%20WILLIAMS/#&gid=2&pid=1
