Help to identify 1926 car MICH26 599
« on: Wednesday 03 February 21 14:29 GMT (UK) »
I posted on another board and have already got some great genealogy help. Hoping to get help here with identifying the cars. Possibly a Buick Sedan? These are my great uncles Frank and George Justice in Detroit October 1926
Here is one suggestion I had
From looking at American cars in general of that date, it seemed to me that the shape of the trim round the top of the radiator here was quite distinctive. The closest match I could spot was a Buick Sedan of about 1925-26, but I'm not certain of this. Here are a couple that I've found - see what you think:

Looks like the 1926 Ford Tudor Sedan:

Or, 1925. Here is a 1925 one with the same bumper:

Thank you Jamjar-very interesting. The iconic Ford Model T. Looks like there are still quite a few of these antiques in existence in USA. Never seen one here in England.

I made the suggestion that spanton has quoted at the top of this thread - note my comment that the shape of the trim round the top of the radiator here was quite distinctive.

The trim on the Ford's radiator has a very different shape - as with many others, there's a larger area of chrome at the top, so the exposed part of the radiator itself is more or less rectangular. The Buick was the only one I found where the trim was the same width all the way round, so the exposed part of the radiator has a rounded top following the line of the bonnet.

The post where I made this comment is at https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=843883.msg7106483#msg7106483

Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Good evening,

I think Buick is probably correct but not sure about the model. The sedan has 6 side windows, the one in the photo only has 4. It could date back a few years before 1926 due to the USA having a system of issuing new licence plates annually. Shame the photographer didn't get the other 3 digits in view. That style of plate ran from 1921 to 1926. Before that the name Michigan ran along the top, from 1927 it ran along the bottom written in full.

Not a ford as the inside face of the wings are cut further back and no sidelights in front of the windscreen.

Still searching for a full list of Buicks for the 20s.

Good evening,

The 22-45 appears to be an open top tourer. The 23-47 is another 6 window sedan . But the search led me to this one, the only buick 4 window model I can find is this one;

A 23-41 sedan.

Hi Folks,

Bit late on this one but can confirm this is a cca 1926 Buick Standard Six. Dating can be taken from the registration plate which advises Michigan 26 (State and year). Buick from the drum headlamps with decorated front headlamp rim and down pointed centre to radiator top. Front wheels appear to have multiple wheelnuts so is a Standard Six rather than a Master Six, model is 27 from having four doors.
