FEGAN / DOYLE
« on: Wednesday 03 February 21 20:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I’m quite new to this and have hit a bit of a brick wall looking for details beyond what I’ve so far found.

I’m looking for details of Doyle/ Fegan family who moved to Coatbridge.

Info I have so far:

Sarah Fegan, born approx 1856.

Married Charles Doyle (b. approx 1851) at Clonduff Catholic Church on 31 Dec 1871.

Their son, Hugh Doyle, was registered in Rathfriland in 18th September 1874.

Believe Sarah has a sister Rose Fegan - this is who I am most interested in finding out more about.

Rose married David Doyle (b. Approx 1849) in Coatbridge in 1882.

Believe father of Sarah and Rose is a Hugh Fegan & Mother Catherine but have no birth details.

Wondering if anyone has any further info - or can point me in the best direction to fill in the gaps?

Thanks in advance,
MJM

Did Sarah or Rose die in Scotland? If so, their death certificates should give you their parent names. (There’s a likely death for Sarah in Coatbridge in 1914 aged 65 GROS ref 652/2 363. That cert should tell you if Charles was still alive and so you’ll know which side of 1914 to search for his death).

In addition to Hugh in 1874, Charles and Sarah had Catherine 1.10.1876 & Margaret 11.2.1879, both born Cleomack.

The Valuation Revision records (on the PRONI site) list Charles Doyle in Cleomack from 1878 – 1888 on plot 63 which was a 129 acre farm.

Thanks so much for that info - really helpful & interesting!

I found a death certificate for Rose in Scotland, with the surname spelled Fagan. Seems it differed a bit between Fegan/Fagan. Showing her parents as Hugh Fegan & Katherine - but can’t work out the maiden name from the image. (Not sure if it’s ok to post that on here?)

I had Charles in Coatbridge around 1881 but maybe there was an overlap?

I’ll look into David Doyle around that same location as Charles to see if I can find out more on that side now. David and Rose are the more direct link back to my family line.

Thanks again! So helpful of you.

I would suggest making a free account on findmypast to search their Catholic records for free. Likewise, you can do searches at the Ulster Historical Foundation, but would have to pay for records.

There is a Rose born in 1815 and the one you probably want who was born in 1859.
baptism: 23 Sep 1859
Parish: Clonallon
parents: Hugh Fagan and Catherine Fannin
You can view the baptism for free here:
