Diary > Wednesday 3rd February
« on: Thursday 04 February 21 00:04 GMT (UK) »
After a restless night I woke up with a stiff shoulder. Not sure whether I'd slept awkwardly on it or overdone the upper body exercises yesterday but I avoided putting any pressure on that area when I did some Pilates later in the morning. It was another day when it was cold and rained continually throughout the day so once again I didn't get out for a walk, the furthest I went was bringing the bin back in from the street. It's forecast to clear tomorrow afternoon, hope it's right.

Portioned the spag bol I made yesterday, put all in the freezer except one which I'll have tomorrow. Put some washing in the machine, again to dry indoors. After lunch I moved the tins and jars of food out of the box in the garage into the kitchen. Sent a message to a friend I haven't heard from for a while, she lives hundreds of miles away so no chance of seeing her. Ended up phoning her, talked for some time, when we ended the call I saw a missed call from my friend L, rang her back, another long chat.
After that I tidied the drawer where I keep tea towels, cling film, foil etc. Did some ironing but put off doing the duvet cover and sheet, I have to psyche myself up to those. Can't believe how domesticated I'm getting. Made some more changes to my grocery order, it's quite a hefty bill this time as I've ordered things like laundry detergent, fabric conditioner and toilet rolls. I always order the largest pack of these things as they're so much cheaper and also I don't have to think about it again for some time. I decant the laundry products into a smaller container I've had for ages and keep the big one in the garage. Less plastic waste too.

At 6pm I had a peep to see if my neighbours were out, a number of them were so I went out and clapped for Captain Tom with them. Bless him.
Made peri peri chicken for tea with baked potato and veg.

Watched Landscape Artist, couldn't believe who won, I hated the painting. The judging seems these days to always be on the basis of something different but different doesn't necessarily mean good. The result is that the artists all seem to be desperately looking for a gimmick that will pique the interest of the judges. I disliked all but two of the initial submissions. On a positive note, I did like the wildcard winner.

Roobarb, I'm watching that landscape artist episode on repeat rn,
The street scene and the green one, yes. I use a lot of green in mine, but there's always a flash of red in it..

So, today started like most others. Up at the usual time, sort myself and golden lab while the OH and black lab snooze on for a while.
The wake up and breakfast time came and went, then bathroom time for OH.
I had to clean and re dress the removed peg site this morning, community matron came yesterday and did it after lunch, but the dressing was leaking again. Got OH comfy again.
A delivery left in the front porch, a box containing flowers, the one that's been advertised on TV a lot lately, except its nothing like the bulging bunch of open blooms they show. They weren't open and they barely half filled the box. And, they hadn't seen water for many hours either so looked a little sad.
Straight into water and revive them, then cut the stems and arrange later.

Then something rather disturbing. The OH had a small package from China, she's had them before with cheap bits of jewelry in them, a complete waste of money but it amuses her to find, order and receive these things.
She called me and asked me to look at the contents, a small syringe with an orangey pink liquid in, and a long cap on the end, possibly consealing a subcutaneous type needle. I left it unopened but asked her what it was, she had no idea, there was no paperwork of any kind inside, no instructions, nothing. I can't imagine what it is.
The label on the outside has the senders name and address which I looked up, fake I'd imagine, and the customs declaration described it as "adapter".
Needless to say, I took it away from the OH.
I think the authorities need to know about it so I'll decide tomorrow who to contact, possibly customs.

Nothing too exciting happened after that, the normal cups of tea and light snacks. Chicken korma and egg fried rice for dinner, the OH had cheesey mash with a little butter and brie on top.
Followed by cappuccino, oh, and yes, I went outside and clapped in the dark.
And here I am, watching landscape artist and thinking about going off to bed.

Tonight's birdie is a Robin again but at the end of breeding, they work so hard rearing their young, they don't take care of themselves and lose feathers, this one has no tail and is pretty bedraggled.
They often disappear at this point because they can't fly till they renew the lost feathers, they stay in the undergrowth mainly.

That sounds like a very worrying item your OH received Griff, not sure who you would need to report it to. Hope you enjoyed Landscape Artist, I still love to watch it even if I moan about the outcome!
Lovely photo the little robin.  :)

Well ,after midnight and kitchen tidy, a glass of warm milk, bathroom and
bed, after last drops !
I bet I looked like that Robin after bringing up my second little boy - Phew
talk about greased lightening! After the first  who was calm and so easy, I did not know what had hit me!
But gosh he was fun!

Daughter phoned re horse, he is to have scans on his neck as there is something there .Possibly from him having his head back such a long time when he had a throat operation and was strung up so his neck was arched back
The Vets are worried it is the vertebrae in his neck just behind his head ,something stopping blood getting to his brain .
If so he is dangerous ,could drop at any time .
She is  prepared for the worst ,but hopes she can just retire him .
He is a lovely character and she knows him inside out.
As she said when she phoned, he is not a person and when so many people are bereaved to fuss about him is silly.
She will do her best for him and after that ,well he can go peacefully,
The Vets can use a sedative now ,much kinder.

Got online copies of the village magazine online from the editor.
Where I lived as a child .
There are now Pine Martens, Otters,Beavers  ,in the countryside and Salmon in the Severn at Shrewsbury again,!
A little local bus us running a service from the village to Ludlow.Once weekly.
A lovely little town with good food shops.

There used to be a Mediaeval Christmas market in the castle grounds .
Lovely unusual stuff for presents .
That was where Katherine if Aragon abd her first husband Prince Arthur lived when they married ,but he died after six months from TB.They were both fourteen .
She stayed a widow for six years then Henry Vlll saw her and they married.
Married about twenty years but then  Anne Boleyn came  on the scene! ::)
The rest is history, as you all know.

So last drops ,bedtime wash ,teeth and sleep, .
Goodnight everyone,
Hope it is a good day for you tomorrow but remembering those who have sadness at this time,
Viktoria.

I think customs would be very interested Roobarb, incorrectly described, no info describing what it really is, and they'd tell me who else might need to know.

I had a funny feeling about landscape as soon as I saw his submission, not my cup of tea.

Little Robin looked so shabby, but his/her offspring looked really good, I might post that tomorrow, not yet coloured up  and quite spotty

Too tired to post last night so nice to read this morning...
I hope your weather is better today Roobarb..... I know you like to get out every day whereas I’m not that bothered!
Haven’t watched Landscape Artist yet but it sounds like another disappointing one!
Well done for all your tidying up too.... sometimes interesting what you find at the back of draws... like you I buy biggest containers of laundry items keep in the garage and fill a smaller container to keep in the kitchen!

Griff - your OH’s unexpected parcel sounds very bizarre and worrying... I’m sure police/customs would be interested in it!
The little Robin does look a bit bedraggled... they’re lovely birds... always by your feet when digging in the garden ready to pick up and worms that get turned up with the soil... sometimes so close I worry they’re going to get pronged too!

Viktoria - Ludlow and surrounds are lovely and lots of foody places... we stayed there one year in September but oh dear did it rain... we were going to walk the Long Mynd but could barely see in front of our faces and the river side restaurant we’d booked we had a call to say it had to close as the river was running through it! We visited the castle where they were setting up for a good festival...very soggy!
Hope your daughters horse is able to have some treatment ..... such a shame and sad for her if the result isn’t good....

My day started off looking a little dull but not cold.... I got some washing in the machine in the hope of putting it out...
After breakfast we decided to go for a walk before the rain was due to arrive...
OH was up for doing the 6 mile walk but after yogalates and house cleaning yesterday I said I wasn’t! So we walked over the road down the hill and at the bottom OH took the left which would take him in the longer walk and I turned right walking through one small village up the lane into the fields and back up to the road and back home... about an hours walk... the road had lots of water lying and a lot if debris from the fields... then turning up the lane and into the field which was very squelchy... but once away from the start the path through the fields is grass and raised so was not so bad... it was so peaceful and I could hear lots of bird life although saw none... there are usually the odd red kite or buzzards around but saw none...
my boots and trouser bottoms were pretty muddy and soaking so once home changed and put stuff into the machine after hanging out the previous lot of washing.. OH arrived back about 45 mins after me... we had a cuppa and some lunch...
Phoned and spoke to my friend M and she’d passed her annual tests for the airport.... still getting four shifts although they seem to leave it until the last minute to know when and what.... couldn’t do shift work ever let alone now at out time if life!
Had a game of scrabble which I lost....
Took myself up to my work room and did some more card making...
Dinner was chilli with jkt potatoes and green beans...
I left the kitchen blind up but no one came out to clap that I could hear or see... so did my own clap in the kitchen... such a remarkable man...
We watched some tv... settled down to watch the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven only to find OH had recorded the first hour and not the second... annoying how channel 5 do that.... couldn’t find the film on catch up as he’d recorded it in December! So that was a waste of time! Thought we’d try the Bridgerton series as it’s had rave reviews and millions watching..... it was ok... not OH’s cup of tea all the period flouncing around!
Early night... was really tired and my back was giving me jip... pain all down my left leg so hope that’s not going to continue.... had problems off and on for years but been good for a long time...

Thursday 4th February. Sitting in the waiting room in the eye clinic at the hospital -  not our local hospital in town but the regional university hospital waiting for OH to see the specialist for her regular check up. She's had retinitis pigmentosa for many years now combined with glaucoma and is registered legally blind. Oh here comes doc, have to go.

Good morning Caroline.
It had me worried to be honest, there's no telling what may be in it, the fact it seems to have a needle attached and where it came from.
But my OH has ordered some very strange things before. Whether she just can't remember or is embarrassed about it, I don't know.

A 6 mile walk? If I did that here, I know half of it would be up hill and I'd need plenty of gtn spray.
Yes, landscape artist wasn't the best episode I'd seen.

Morning Glyn, I hope all goes well for your OH.
I've spent countless hours in waiting rooms in Exeter RD&E, it's not fun.

Victoria, it’s ok to worry and grieve for our animals...They’ve been our companions, kept us sane, laughed with us, dried our tears, heard all our secrets... Having lost our 32 year old mare in 2020 and our brother and sister  16 year old wire hairs as well, and Covid, we were pretty low for a while.  Our daughter has loaned us one of her labs, it made all the difference in the world to have another furry friend in the house.
We’ve also had 2 family members in hospital, non Covid thank god, but still very concerning and another who is literally in Gods waiting room just now.  I’m not looking for sympathy folks, we’re the generation that pull together, look out for each other and just get on with life...such as it is right now  :)
