It does look like you have found Sarah's brother

A tree on Anc lists Henry MacDonald as the son of Samuel MacDonald and Sarah Taylor with his elder sister being Sarah MacDonald b 1826 Clerkenwell who married John Absolam

Unfortunately I can't see a definate marriage fot Henry to wife Sarah that would enable possible births for Mary Ann MacDonald to be checked for mothers maiden name on the GRO.     But as the couple appear to have had no other children it does look likely Mary was Henry's sisters child.

Added - I also noticed that Henry was listed as a Carpenters Labourer in 1861 so maybe the occupation was reflected in Mary's fathers occupation when she married???

Not knowing where those M(a)cDonalds originated e.g. Scotland/Ireland? it may be worth knowing some variants...

Samuel/Somerled/Somhairle/Sorley but there's probably more.

A variant for Sarah (at least of Scots descent) is Marion & could also be Hannah.

Henry McDonald's marriage to Sarah is showing in the parish registers of St Giles Cripplegate. McDonald is down as one of the variants, McDonnell. Sarah's maiden name was HART. The marriage was on 24 Aug 1858. Both fathers, Samuel McDonnell labourer and Henry Hart weaver were deceased.

Witnesses were a Charles and Ann McDonnell.

This looks to be Sarah Snr and children Henry, Thomas and John on the 1851 census www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG6Z-MX7 Haven't found them yet in 1841.

With Samuel having died in 1850, Sarah, showing as a widow in 1851, lived a couple of more years till 1853. Daughter Sarah reported her death. One of the a/try trees has included images for the statutory death registrations for Samuel and wife Sarah.

In the 14 Nov 1853 marriage of John Absolom and Sarah McDonald (possible daughter in the above family) in St Giles Cripplegate, Middlesex, her father is showing as Samuel, a labourer.  There's no note that he was dead.

In the 1850 death report of Samuel McDonald or the 1853 death report of the older Sarah McDonald, does it say the reporter daughter is Sarah ABSOLOM?  She was using the Absolom surname from at least 1848, having given birth to Absolom children before the 1853 marriage.

Samuel's death, at the age of 53, was on 6 March 1850 at 24 Red Lion Alley, Saffron Hill. He died from bronchitis. Death was reported by Sarah McDonald, present at death.

Sarah's death on 17 July 1853 at 13 Broad Court. Age 51, she died of heart related complications. Widow of Samuel McDonald, dustman. The informant was Sarah McDonald of 7 Turks Lane Court, Golden Lane. Does not say daughter, has been my interpretation I see now 

Although Sarah Jnr was living with John Absolom for some years, as we know, they didn't actually married until 14 Nov 1853. She may have chosen to keep things simple and still go by her maiden name. It is areas like this that lead to speculation really.

Would be good to find the McDonalds all together but the 1841 census is elusive

That confirms the 1851 Census with widow Sarah McDonald and 3 children (youngest registered mmn Taylor) is the widow of Samuel McDonald.  In 1851 she was at Red Lion Alley, St Sepulchre, Middlesex.
