Are these both Brenda?
« on: Friday 05 February 21 09:06 GMT (UK) »
I’m certain that the photo of the older girl here is my mum Brenda who was born in 1932 (any guess as to her age?). I’m not so confident about the younger girl cuddling the big hound. It seems to have been taken in bright sun, so she is squinting. Internal evidence suggests to me that it is going to be either her or maybe her cousin.
I know that my grandfather worked for his father’s haulage business, which had a guard dog and I seem to recall hearing about a big dog which was a softie. (Is this a mastiff?). Also, the rockery looks to me like the gypsum rock which came from the brick works for which the family firm mainly worked (we had some in my garden too). So I think it very likely that the picture was taken at my great grandparents, but I have a nagging doubt that it may be my mother’s cousin in the photo.

(Crazily, due to a family fall-out, I never met my grandfather’s brother or his side of the family, though my mother did keep in touch ??? ::))

Yes, I’d say either the same girl, or siblings.

The difference is that one is a studio shot, (or looks like it) and in the other, she’s squinting into the sun?

Romilly.

Many thanks for your replies, it is nice to have this confirmed. I think it was mainly that difference in the eyes that slightly bothered me. Both of my parents, oddly enough, were only children, so my mum didn’t have a sister.
