I found 3 baptisms at Ashbrittle:
James Hearn bp.10/9/1854, son of John and Elizabeth
William Hearn bp.25/12/1857 ditto
Charles Hern bp.19/5/1860 ditto
Then found Elizabeth's burial:
Elizabeth Hern (alias Brice) 38 bur.27/5/1860 Ashbrittle
plus a John Hern alias Brice 19 bur.25/11/1870 Ashbrittle
Charles Herne 2 bur.16/3/1862 Ashbrittle
Nothing under Hearn/var. 1861 Ashbrittle so looked under Brice:
John Brice 43 widr. Ag. Lab. born Woodbury, Devon
Thomas Brice 8 born Holcombe Rogus, Devon
James Brice 6 born Ashbrittle, Somerset
William Brice 3 ditto
Baby Charles - also as Brice - is living with a family in Hockworthy, Devon
In Holcombe Rogus, Devon there is John Brice bc.1849 Ashbrittle who I think is the one buried there in 1870.
Think I have found them in 1851 at Hockworthy, Devon - transcribed on Ancestry as 'Urn' but looks like Hern.
Since 'John' states in 1861 that he was born Woodbury, Devon I then checked baptisms:
John Hearne bp.2/9/1819 Woodbury, Devon, son of John and Agnes.
Still marriage to find for John and Elizabeth - under Hearn/vars/ or Brice!
However, have found where 'alias' of Brice comes from:
His parents: John Hern married Agnes Brice 20/4/1814 Halberton, Devon.
Can't see that John and Elizabeth registered their childrens births under either surname.
