Hi  hmserge,

You give Samuel birth March 1760

Member - Milliepede has given 1759 Birth or bapt father Samuel

The calendar them years was from a day in March to a date in March the next year thus could be 1759 or 1760

Having said that other bapt 1760  father Tobias could have named a son Samuel

Without other records from the manor or village for occupations -deeds of property and such - if they were a poor family ? then there could be parish chest records-like overseers of the poor relief collection from villagers who could pay monies to support the poor and then the overseer paid these monies to the poor to support them. These records will be held in West Yorkshire archives in Wakefield plus register of deeds names indexes and actual land deeds.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi,

Thank you for this advice, it’s made me think and understand a little more. I’m not sure if they were poor or not.  I know it says Japheth was a woolcomber in the 1841 and 1851 census.
I’ve been meaning to go to the West Yorkshire archives office for a while now so that’s somewhere I’ll definitely try get to in the future, as it’s not too far.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it

Try  searching WYAS catalogue

https://www.catalogue.wyjs.org.uk/CalmView/advanced.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog

Enter for example Samuel Turner as key word in top box in link

__________________

Also to give you an idea of WYAS stock in archives the Latterday saints Mormon church hold a lot on micro film - you can view these at any of their family history centres (usually at one of their church side buildings.  ) You would have to order a film real at a nominal cost. The other main idea for you is to see what documents they have on micro Latterday saints film and then view the originals at the (WYAS) achives in Halifax or Wakefield for no cost to you.

Find Familysearch in a search engine (Like Google)
Log on or register

When registered and logged on

Click search on top menu and click Catalog in drop down menu

Put Halifax in the box that comes up in next page and click on " England, Yorkshire, Halifax." in selection in dropdown menu and click search

A list of their stock will come up.

click one and a sub list will appear in blue links -click one and follow instructions

Write the info down and the go to WYAS - ( LDS numbers do not mean anything to WYAS only info name (Example -Ancient halls in and about Halifax) and they will look up their number by the info name.

You'll soon get the jist

Hope it helps

Morning dobfarm,

Thank you so much for all the advice and information.

I’ll do that and check out Latter Day Saints first.

It does sound confusing but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it.  It also sounds really interesting as I love trying to search and find things.  Fingers crossed this will help me in the future with other searches too.

Thank you once again,
Hope you have a good day

Just remember anything you find in Latter day Saints family search catalog for Halifax is most likely copied from West Yorkshire Archive Service, thus the name and date of the document is all that's needed to find it in WYAS index books

WYAS search catalog engine as above post link numbers do count in finding their doc's
