Friends Burial Ground, Benfieldside
« on: Sunday 07 February 21 11:04 GMT (UK) »
An ancestor died on the 2nd January 1812 (residing at Iveston). Records show that she was a Quaker and that she was buried on the 5th January at the Friends Burial Ground, Benfieldside. Does anyone know where this burial ground is / was situated?

You can see it in the middle of this map:

https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=54.86867&lon=-1.85386&layers=168&right=BingHyb

There was originally a meeting house there too - see this older map (not available in the side-by-side view) - you'll have to zoom in to the Shotley Bridge area on the western edge:

Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Thank you arthurk - I see that it is basically Shotley Bridge. The grave yard is now part of a private garden with some gravestones still existing.
