Topics on serious illnesses
« on: Monday 08 February 21 09:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks,

I'd like to reiterate guidance that Berlin-Bob gave, on the Totally Off Topic board (it's a 'stickied' topic on the top of that board). It's only viewable to logged in members, so I've pasted it below:

Topics on Cancer and other serious illnesses

Many of us have been affected by serious illnesses - either directly or indirectly.

The consequences are shattering in many cases and the process of treatment and cure is scarcely less traumatic.

For that reason - and that reason alone - the Moderators are inclined to agree with those who have voiced concern about the nature of these very detailed threads about experiences with the disease.

While we share your pain, we believe that Rootschat is not the place to detail the minutiae of such a delicate topic which can bring back painful memories and even potentially scare the newly-diagnosed.

We have decided that these threads won't be allowed.  There is a precedent where other members have been encouraged to start a blog rather than post details here and we believe this to be the best route.

We have no wish to stop people from using a thread to encourage people to seek advice and/or treatment, or offer well wishes - but that's as far as it should go.

This is a difficult decision to take and we wish all those who are undergoing treatment a speedy recovery. Naturally, there is no objection to you using the PM system or the Chatrooms to offer support to other Rootschatters.

[...]

Thanks.
Bob
