Question about Scotland's People Registers
« on: Monday 08 February 21 14:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Is it possible that a record that is less than 100 years old might not actually be searchable on SP yet?     I know that you can't look at the images until they are over that age, but what about the listings?

I have two relatives whom I know for a fact were born in Rosyth in 1921 and 1923 respectively, but their birth records are not on the site.   Has anyone else had this?
Toomebridge, County Antrim: Devlin
Toomebridge and Cavan:† McCormick
Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Shropshire:†† Hill
Lurgan Co. Armagh:† Malone, Dumigan, McCourt, McGill
St. Pancras, and Poplar, London:†Serjeant, Heald
Brookborough Co. Fermanagh:† Carmichael, Tierney
Staffordshire:† Cook
Isle of Wight:†† Parkman
Warwickshire:† Kinchin
Cork: Kennedy, Ahern, Deliere

A British Islander, born Dublin of Irish/Anglo roots.†Ancestors have crossed and recrossed the Irish sea in every generation.

Hi Winterbloom21,
As far as I am aware all Scottish births, deaths and marriages are searchable on SP website - although as you correctly say, births need to be over 100 years ago to be viewed ( deaths/ 50 year, marriages 75 years.)

Could the spelling of their name be different?
Could they have had different first names from the one you knew them as ?
For example my great great aunt was known as Cissie but in fact her Christian name was Susan

Looby  :)
Added - and have you searched other areas?
Perhaps these relatives believed they were born in Rosyth but actually weren't.

My Dad died mid December and was searchable in the index by I think mid January the following year! I didn't think that they updated that quickly but it was definitely him  :)

Oh well, that's that theory out of the window.  I was clutching at straws there.    I have searched for these three relatives, one of whom has really specific names, across the length and breadth of England, Scotland and Ireland and I cannot find them anywhere.    I know they existed because I've met them!   I give up.
