Burials from Biggleswade Workhouse?
« on: Monday 08 February 21 17:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I've recently found out that a relative of mine was in Biggleswade Workhouse.

I was just wondering if anyone knew where people who died in the Workhouse would be buried? Would they have been claimed by family or was there somewhere else - perhaps a 'paupers' grave site in Biggleswade?

It was John Kilby and he was in the workhouse in 1841 and he died 3 years later so may have died there. His son Emmanuel most likely died in the same workhouse in 1881. :(

Burial:
name: John Kilby
buried: 28 Aug 1844; Langford
age: 72
abode: Biggleswade, Union House

The Beds FHS' surname indexes are now available for free online, and it has the basic details of John's burial (see the K-Kytildy link).

Note that the Beds FHS' surname indexes are based on their parish transcripts which typically only go up to the 1850s, or there abouts.
