Patrick Hessian, Ballinrobe, father of Denis Hessian b circa 1829
« on: Tuesday 09 February 21 10:21 GMT (UK) »
I think I have found my GGG Grandfather, Patrick Hessian or Hession in Ballinrobe.
Seems he had a son, Denis, who joined the 48th Regiment around 1851 in Dodford Northamptonshire.  Patrick signed his sons marriage certificate in 1852 in Dodford.
But then they both disappear !   Did Denis go back to Ireland with his Dad, or off to the Crimea, never to be seen again ?  Any ideas very happily received.

Me again.....seriously not a stalker ;D

How about this as a relation....1851

Patrick Hession age 19 born Ireland  private soldier 33rd regiment

In Sunderland at the barracks Sunderland east.

The fact he's also a soldier........joining the army around the time of the Irish potato famine @1845-1852 could provide a steady life for a young man at this time.

Hi Tazzie,

Wow, thats great, he joined around the same time as Denis, 1851.  I believe the Army put effort into recruiting in Ireland at that time.  Maybe his brother !!

Thank you, very much appreciated     Michael

Hello,

The marriage certificate (church record) doesn’t show Patrick as signing anywhere.
He is recorded as father to Dennis and as a Pensioner, so therefore likely a soldier too.

Perhaps Dennis was born in Ballinrobe when his father was posted there  :-\

Crimean War Campaign Medal -
Patrick Hesson, 33rd Regiment - no. 2562

Thank you, I expected to see this sort of info for Denis as the 48th Regiment went to the Crimea in early 1855.
But he's just disappeared from 1852 !!

Many thanks  Michael

I can't take the credit for that one .....well done Heywood.

Are any Crimea records online I've never had much luck looking.....I've got Ancestry.

I just found that one mention.
Is there any certainty that he was in the Crimea? I know the regiment went but was he still with them.
I can’t see any military records for his father, Patrick, either.
