Lesters Golden Lane 1800's
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 11:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm researching Lesters Golden Lane Dublin. Bridget Lester, born 1898 is g- grandmother. I'm in a mess with who's who. There's several Bridget's and Williams all living in the same street and some times same house. Just seeing if anyone else has same research. Thanks

Ok, You have Bridget's birth and the address then was 29 Golden Lane.
Mothers maiden name = Connell.
In 1901 she would be 3.
They are in house 1.1 in Peter Street.

Thank you for that, I just hoped in was on the right track. I got confused with a Bridget Reddy Lester same year of birth is listed on FindMyPast prison records as living at 1 Peters Street in 1902. Could be a coincidence I suppose

At the risk of adding to the confusion, here’s some extra info - hopefully helpful:

William Charles Lester, who marries Bridget Connell, was one of eight children of Edward Lester and Louisa Rigoli (Regan) who was my great x 3 aunt. She was from an Italian family and Edward knew her father Giovanni. My hunch is the Lesters may also have been an immigrant family, either from Germany or if they changed their sunrme from Italy. Edwards oldest daughter Margaret married a Henry Sheer who was definitely from Germany. All of the families lived in or around Chancery Lane.

Trying to figure out your Bridget conundrum- she was born in 1898 and her William and Bridget Connell only married in 1900. If you look closely at the birth record for Bridget in 1898 you can see the maiden name of the mum is Cronin not Connell. So either she was born to a different William Lester or was a daughter from a previous marriage.

On an aside, Williams older brother John Lester had two daughters called Bridget. Both died in infancy. It suggests that it was a ‘family’ name - maybe Edward Lesters mother or sister was a Bridget too...?

Thank you so much for the added info and for taking the time to reply. It’s a bit confusing, all the same names living in the one street👍👍👍

Happy if it helps some. As I said it’s of direct interest to me too. Have you ever seen Lester referred to as Leister? That might point to a German ancestry. Henry Sheer was German.
