Mary Ann Bosworth born c1832 Cottesbrook
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 14:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for a baptism or birth record of Mary Ann to prove her parents.

What I have so far:

On all censuses, she consistently gives Cottesbrooke as her place of birth. Year of birth varies from 1826 to 1834.

She marries John Barrett in 1849 in Brixworth registration district. I’ve tried looking at Cottesbrook, Creaton, Spratton, Brixworth and Walgrave (where they live most of the time, apart from 1851 in Finedon.) can’t find marriage entry.

In 1851, she has her brother Edward living with her born 1837 Cottesbrooke. Written as brother in law to head of household. Also their own infant son, Samuel.

In 1861, she has Charles Bosworth, a visitor aged ten. Also born Cottesbrooke. He is living with his parents, David Bosworth and Ann in 1851. David was baptised as non conformist in 1829, born 1825 to samuel and Mary.

On 1841 census, I found a Mary Bosworth born c1831 living with Samuel b1800, william b1860 and Eli born 1829 and edward b1838. I found an Eli Bosworth baptised non conformist to Samuel and Mary 1828. Bearing in mind that the 1841 ages are not exact, David and Eli seem to be connected to Mary Ann and Samuel. Mary senior (nee payne as far as I can see from Samuel Bosworths marriage in Cottesbrooke 1824) died in 1837.

So ... I can’t find a baptism for either Mary or Edward, confirming their parentage, although there are certainly a lot of coincidences with Samuel and David?

What do others think?

I have thought of sending for the marriage certificate, but this is for a friend and I’ve already sent for a couple where there are dead ends and I don’t really want to spend any more.

Many thanks! 🤞🏻

Ps nor can I find Edward’s marriage entry to sarah Ann Norwood in 1870 in oundle.

Hi

It looks like Eli and David are listed as Abode Hollowell on the baptism records. There are also other baptisms at the same time to an Eli and Mary Bosworth Abode Creaton

Regards

Jon

Hi Jon.
Yes I’d seen those.
There is a bizarre one on the non conformist ones with Eli.
Mary is listed as Mary Bosworth to Eli and Anne Balderstone. 1832. Great Creaton.

Perhaps Samuel only baptised his sons?

Also, the brother Edward and the nephew Charles with father David, must be linked, as the Mary Ann on the censuses is with the right husband and children.

Hi. So sorry. I meant I couldn’t find the entry at oundle when I looked through the registers on ancestry.
Does it have the details like his father’s name on freebmd?
